Volunteer Opportunities

Urgent Need

We are in immediate need of two people to help provide support for our participants in the shelter. Approximate shifts will be 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM and 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM. No experience necessary, we will train and we can work with your schedule. These are currently volunteer positions but will be first to be considered for hire should funding become available. Must be reliable, 18 years of age or over and able to pass a background check. Please contact Brinda at 870-856-3500.

Maintenance

Just like your home, our shelter needs occasional maintenance and regular upkeep. This can be anything from changing a light bulb to weed-eating the yard to putting up new shelves at the resale shop. We always have little projects that need completed and occasionally ones that are a little bit bigger. Our goal is to provide a safe, home-style environment for those we serve. You can help make that happen, on your own schedule.

Transportation

Sometimes a helping hand comes on four wheels. We often have participants that just need a ride. Sometimes, it's a doctor or court appointment or maybe a ride to or from work. Occasionally it's a ride out of town. This is an "as needed" position. In addition to a background check, drivers must possess a valid drivers license and current vehicle insurance.

Things you need to know...

You must be a minimum of 18 Years of Age
You must be able to pass and agree to a background check
All volunteers working with our programs must possess an understanding of the issues of domestic violence and sensitivity to the plight of battered women and children.
You must possess the ability to work with people of various ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Orientation training is required for all of our volunteers.
You will be key in ensuring the protection and safety of participants, staff and the shelter.
You must maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
You may be asked to provide assistance to participants, staff and/or volunteers.
Depending on how you choose to help, we may ask that you attend domestic violence training which may occur outside our area.

Resale Shop

We can always use another set of hands in our resale shop! We live in a generous community and without volunteers the donations can become overwhelming. This position assists the store manager with transporting, sorting, cleaning and sales of items. Provides assistance to participants, staff and volunteers as needed. Hours available for this position are flexible during our regular store hours - Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
